I found this video on the net about insulin and the cellular storage mechanism.  Kind of a cheesy video, but it conveys the point rather well.  Dr. Eades’ book, The Protein Power Life Plan, is on my list of books to read.  And according to his blog, he’s going to be relasing some new material soon.

Click here for a pretty simple video about the Paleo diet, courtesy of Pay Now Live Later.

New posts, along with training, should resume in about 10 days.  Until then, enjoy the video and contemplate your current dietary habits.

A Quick Analogy

Suppose your auto mechanic told you to quit using gasoline with an Octane Rating of 87 because if you continue, you’ll destroy your car.

Now suppose that someone told you to quit ingesting sugar and simple carbohydrates, altogether, and to develop a diet based upon lean meat, fruit, vegetables, fruit and nuts (I.E. – the Caveman diet).  Otherwise, you’re setting yourself up for sub-standard health and possibly death.

Most of us have no problem obeying the auto mechanic.  But we do have a problem listening to dietary advice, especially from a novice.

No, I’m not as formally educated about your personal health and dietary habits as your auto mechanic is with your car.  He has a basic level of knowledge through formal education and is probably under the supervision of someone trying to make an extra buck. I, on the other hand, have no formal training in nutrition.  But I do have a lot of experience.  More so than a vast majority of the human population.

But that’s hard to sell to the common American individual.  Most of us trust the “education” system over “experience”.  And rightfully so in certain subjects.  But your diet is not one of them.  Just look at the Food Pyramid developed by the USDA.  That was supposed to make everyone healthy, right?  That was the hypothesis.  I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

So why trust someone like me, the guy with “experience”?  The best thing about it is you can try my way and if it doesn’t work, you can revert to your former eating habits.  Unlike the “educated” mechanic, I’m not going to make you pump something into your body if it doesn’t work for you.

So think about that the next time you’re paying for the preimum gasoline just because an “expert” told you to!

My Daily Meals

Several members of TitanFit are starting a “30-Day Lockdown” diet challenge designed by CrossFit North Atlanta.

I am going to fore go participation in this challenge and instead focus my efforts on refining my Zone habits.  Plus, there is no way I’m going to eliminate dairy from my diet!  Generally speaking, I’m pretty good about Zoning throughout the week.  My two dietary vices are beer and my weekend cheat meal (day).  I also need to refine my sleep habits and recovery efforts.  So as the TitanFit crew tackles the lockdown, I’ll focus on a strict Zone and improving the quality and quantity of my rest.

The Importance of Nutrition

One of the most asked about topics regarding CrossFit is nutrition. (I avoid the word diet because many people associate negative things with that term.)  As you read through the CrossFit material, you’ll see that CrossFit Inc. advocates the Zone Diet. Many other CrossFitters have found success with the Paleo Diet. While these two ways ofeating seem to be the most popular, there are many others out there.
